Dr Kanaganayagam heads a subspecialist cardiology department and works alongside chosen experts to provide a complete approach to his patients' healthcare. He has pioneered an examplar heart failure service within Imperial, developed pathways alongside patients and GPs, and been an opinion leader amongst the most novel treatments for heart disease.
One of his unique abilities lies in his expertise in a number of cardiac imaging techniques, including CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, echo and transoesophageal echo, which he uses to provide a hands-on complete approach in the investigative process of heart disease. He is the Cardiology Imaging Lead at Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals and advises specialist teams there and elsewhere, to manage valve and muscle disease, assess coronary disease and guide transcatheter procedures.
Dr Kanaganayagam works a Cardiology Consultant at Imperial college NHS trust and Chelsea and Westminster NHS trust, and is an honorary senior lecturer in Cardiology at Imperial College. He was trained at Kings College London and intercalated a PhD in Cardiology at St Thomas’ Hospital whilst a medical student, with prizes, distinctions and a scholarship. He continued training as an academic and clinician at tertiary and quaternary cardiology centres, St Thomas', Imperial College Hospitals and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
He has lectured on international courses and set up an educational programme in cardiology. He continues to contribute actively in the research arena and is the principal investigator in a number of clinical trials. -
