    Dr Clive Handler qualified from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1977. He was awarded an MRC Fellowship to do an intercalated degree in Pharmacology. He was an MRC Fellow at Guy's Hospital where he was awarded his MD degree for his research thesis on exercise testing after heart attacks. He trained in general medicine and cardiology at the Royal Brompton, London Chest, Charing Cross Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and University College and the Middlesex Hospitals. His first NHS consultant appointment was at Northwick Park and St Mary's Hospitals where he was also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College. He was appointed a Consultant Cardiologist working in the National Pulmonary Hypertension Unit at the Royal Free Hospital, and as an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 2004. He is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Division of Medicine at UCL. He is a general adult cardiologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitation, and cardiovascular disease prevention. His NHS work at the Royal Free Hospital involves the diagnosis and management of patients with complex causes of breathlessness and fatigue due to multiple medical causes. He does his invasive procedures at the Wellington Hospital. He is active in research, teaching and organising national conferences. He is the author or editor of 13 textbooks for students, GPs and patients and has written numerous scientific papers. He is a tutor and examiner for UCL and a member of the selection panel for King's College Medical School. He is the Chairman of the St Paul's School Medical Conference. He is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society and the Royal College of Physicians. He is an elected Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology. He is a Freeman of the City of London.
