Dr Andrew Markey is a Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological and Laser Surgeon who graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 1980, undertaking specialist dermatology training at Guy's Hospital and St. John's Institute of Dermatology from 1986 onwards. In 1990, the University of Manchester awarded him his doctorate M.D for his research thesis ‘Non-melanoma skin cancer'. Following accreditation in dermatology (board certification) in 1991, Dr Markey left for a one-year post as Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California, San Francisco, specialising in all aspects of procedural dermatology.
On his return to the UK, he was appointed Consultant Dermatologist and Senior Lecturer to St. John's Institute, St. Thomas' Hospital, London where he helped create the custom-built national referral, Dermatological Surgery and Laser Unit (DSLU), where he was Lead Clinician 1993-2000. In January 2003, he moved into full-time private dermatological surgery practice maintaining an Honorary Consultant position at St. John's Institute, Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, where he continues to lecture and assist in training of other doctors from the UK and abroad in dermatological surgery. Dr. Markey was dermatology specialist advisor to the UK Government's Department of Health Expert Advisory Group on the Regulation of Cosmetic Surgery 2003-2005 and was the UK contributing editor for the leading medical journal ‘Dermatologic Surgery' for over 20 years.
Dr. Markey is an internationally recognised expert on all aspects of procedural dermatology including a wide variety of surgical procedures for the skin, laser technologies, chemical peeling, soft tissue augmentation (fat, hyaluronic acids) and neurotoxin injectable treatments (botulinum toxins), used in treating the visible consequences of a large variety of dermatological conditions including scarring. He has over 70 publications including original papers, abstracts and book chapters with extensive lecture invitations as guest speaker and faculty member at many international dermatology meetings.
