About

  • Biography icon plus

Mr Desai is a highly skilled Ophthalmic surgeon, having performed more than 20,000 operations and having taught over 30 trainees in cataract surgery.

He currently performs over 3,500 CATARACT and REFRACTIVE lens exchange procedures a year, helping people see without glasses and also helping restore vision.

The National Ophthalmic Database (NOD) shows that Mr Desai has one of the lowest complication rates in the country (almost 350% to 400% better than the average eye surgeon in UK)
The NOD database also indicates that Mr Desai is probably one of the top surgeons in volume of surgeries per year. (NOD database only includes approx. 1/4th the work done)

He specialises in REFRACTIVE Cataract /Lens surgery (ability to perform daily tasks without spectacles)

He is sought after for second opinion and is an expert in the field of CATARACT and Medical Retina.

Mr Desai has been trained by leading ophthalmologists including the past president of the royal college of Ophthalmologists and by world luminaries in cataract surgery.

He has also authored a best-selling book on cataract surgery and has been an overall reviewer for the most popular ophthalmology textbook in the world.

He has an extremely high patient satisfaction result and very positive 360 degree feedback both from patients and colleagues.

Mr Desai believes in discussing all available options, their pros and cons thereby helping facilitate a tailor made solution for each individual. Nothing matters more to Mr Desai than being open, honest and transparent.

One of Mr Desai's happiest memories was a 93 year old lady on wheelchair who came in depressed and had her head down throughout the consultation, having lost interest in life. After the cataract operation, she said she could see as much as a 20 year old and regained interest in life.
