    Dr Alifrangis is a consultant medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of urological cancers including prostate, bladder, testicular and penile cancer. He obtained his medical degree at Guys’ Kings and St Thomas’ Medical school and was awarded the university gold medal for medicine. Subsequently he undertook postgraduate medical training and trained in oncology at Imperial College London. Dr Alifrangis was appointed consultant medical oncologist at University College London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s in 2016.

    In his NHS practice, he is the lead oncologist for testicular cancer at UCLH seeing referrals from north and central London hospitals as part of the Anglian Germ Cell Cancer Network. He looks after patients with advanced prostate cancer at both UCLH and St Bartholomew’s Hospital and is part of a specialist team looking after patients with penile cancer.

    Research and Publications

    During my training Dr Alifrangis undertook research into advanced prostate cancer at Hammersmith Hospital, and was awarded a Wellcome Trust fellowship to undertake a PhD at the University of Cambridge in understanding the link between cancer genetics and the efficacy of novel therapies. This was awarded in 2014 and following this his research has focused on the genetic basis of cancer and drug resistance, including personalized approaches to cancer treatment. He was awarded the Sylvia Lawler prize by the Oncology section of the Royal Society of Medicine.

    In his current role, he is the lead investigator in a number of clinical studies with a particular interest in rarer, understudied cancers. He has presented this research at international conferences and published research in various cancer journals including the Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Clinical Cancer Research.

    Dr Alifrangis has an ongoing interest in understanding the experiences of cancer patients and after care in cancer survivors, and is undertaking research in this area.
