  • Biography icon plus

Dr Zhong Chen is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist. He manages adult patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions and is a specialist in heart rhythm disturbances and cardiac device therapy.

Dr Chen graduated in Medicine and Surgery from University College London in addition to a BSc degree in Pharmacology (First-class honours). He undertook his cardiology specialist training at various prestigious hospitals in London. This included specialist fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac devices at St George’s Hospital, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital and Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital, where he worked with leading experts.

He was awarded a PhD in cardiovascular medicine at King’s College London in the pioneering use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias.

Dr Chen is a specialist in managing patients with heart rhythm disorders. He treats patients with palpitations, blackouts (syncope), chest pains and high blood pressure. He also performs coronary angiography, echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. He specialises in complex catheter ablation procedures using the latest technologies for all arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. He is also experienced in implanting all types of cardiac devices including pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.

He firmly believes in a patient-centred approach, always ensuring that patients are fully informed and involved in their care. Following clinical assessment and detailed discussion of the patients’ concerns, he takes particular care to explain all aspects of the condition and the treatment plan.

As a member of one of the largest Arrhythmia units in Europe, he strives to be at the forefront of high quality arrhythmia service provision.  He believes that continuous oversight and independent examination of a service leads to better outcomes for patients.

Dr Chen has a research interest in the use of cardiac MRI to personalise the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. This individualised approach to arrhythmia risk stratification and cardiac pathology can lead to safer and more effective treatment. His research work has been published in major international journals and presented to peers at conferences throughout the world.
