    Mr Aslam qualified (MBBS) in 1984 from King Edward Medical University. He gained his Fellowship (FRCS) in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1990, and his Specialist FRCS in Paediatric surgery from the Intercollegiate Speciality Board in 1998. He is a consultant and Lead for paediatric gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery in Cambridge University hospital since 1999. He is a specialist in paediatric general surgery, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery, neonatal surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery.

    He has extensive academic lab experience with a Doctorate from the University of Bristol, and spent a year at Children's National Medical Centre, Washington DC, as Chief Resident after his UK training. He is extensively involved in teaching and training. He is Course Director for an advanced 3 mm paediatric laparoscopic national course, examines for Cambridge University and Joint Committe for Intercollegiate Examinations in paediatric surgery. He is also member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for the Royal College of Surgeons. In the past he has been Clinical Director of the Cambridge paediatric surgery service for 7 years and currently runs the National Trainee Selection interview process. He has published and presented clinical and academic research widely in international and national conferences, and is invited speaker for many expert lectures on advanced and innovative paediatric surgery techniques.
