In 2021 we partnered with Global Diversity Practice to better understand the needs of our already diverse colleague base. Since then, we’ve made a real strong commitment to our colleagues to create a truly inclusive HCA UK. Importantly, our colleagues are saying they can hear, and feel a difference.
Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging: A place for everyone
At HCA UK, we’ve always put our patients and their families first. We’re working hard to create a caring and inclusive culture for our own diverse family of colleagues too.
Patients first, colleagues always
In 2022, we asked our people how included they felt at HCA UK. From their answers, we realised there was work to do. Now, with a renewed focus and clear strategy, we’re ensuring HCA UK is a place where every colleague feels included and can thrive. It’s a journey, and one we’ve only just begun. But through partnerships with myGwork, Stonewall, RefuAid and the Armed Forces Covenant, and by investing in training to make recruitment more fair and inclusive, we’re already closer to our goal.
‘Patients first, colleagues always’ is how we sum up our ambitions. Developed by one of our own colleagues, it intrinsically represents the culture we’re building and the spirit we share.
We are HCA
At HCA UK, you don’t join a team. You’re part of a family. A family of individuals who each bring something special and different to their role. Watch these members of the HCA UK family share their personal stories and how they’re able to be themselves at work.

Our journey so far
At HCA UK our approach to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging recognises how and where we can do better. We’re at the start of this journey, and it is one that will never be “done”. We continually reflect, listen to our colleagues and take action to make improvements that matter. Here, some of our team talk about the work we’ve done so far, what it means to them, and how it’s helped them feel included, respected and celebrated.
Our DEIB committees
Inclusion comes from all directions. And, through our DEIB Committees, frontline colleagues are a driving force behind the inclusive culture we’re creating across HCA UK.
From themed meals and events to webinars about Black History Month and what it means to our colleagues, they’re working hard to celebrate diversity, create spaces for important conversations, and shape the sense of belonging we want everyone, at every location, to feel.
#WithPride at HCA UK
As our first employee network, we’re incredibly proud of #WithPride. Open to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies, this group of colleagues meets regularly to develop new policies and plan activities, which, to date, have included a stall at London Pride and Pride pins for all colleagues and patients to show their year-round solidarity.
Certifications, awards, nominations and partnerships
We know that there’s no one size fits all approach to inclusion. And, we think it’s important to recognise that we don’t always have the answers to everything. That’s why we partner with a number of organisations who support us with their in-depth knowledge and expertise as we continue on our journey.
