As one of our midwives or neonatal nurses, you’ll have the resources and support to deliver for patients in a way you can be truly proud of. It’s how we care.
Get to put patients first
Join our team of committed, compassionate midwives and nurses and as you deliver personal one-to-one care to mothers and babies, we’ll take care of you – with everything from exceptional benefits and wellbeing programmes to unrivalled opportunities to learn and progress.
You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality care, working with our talented team to provide antenatal, intranatal and postnatal services to all women during their inpatient stay.
Be part of The Portland Hospital
The only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, The Portland Hospital is internationally renowned for clinical excellence thanks to the huge emphasis we place on safety and high-quality care. It means our midwives get the unique opportunity to spend considerable time with the mothers they look after – talking to them, reassuring them, and building relationships with their families to ensure they have most positive pregnancy possible.
Our team itself is a nurturing and close-knit community. No day is the same here, but we always come together to support each other and ensure patients receive the care they deserve. And it’s not only you, but your career we’ll care for too. Whether it’s progressing from a junior midwife or developing your leadership skills as a manager, you’ll find all the support and opportunities you need to explore the path you want.
What’s it like to work at The Portland Hospital?
With 2,000 deliveries a year, our ethos is to put women at the centre of their own maternity care and empower them to make decisions about how they want to give birth.
Our maternity unit currently has 16 inpatient beds as well as a five-bedded delivery suite with a birthing pool, an emergency maternity theatre, and HDU facilities. Outpatients provide a maternity day assessment, ultrasound scanning, and a wide range of birth preparation classes. There are also six cots within the neonatal unit, which provides Level 2 neonatal care to new-borns.
We offer genuine flexibility in our shift patterns and you’ll always have a say in the hours you work. Along with full- and part-time roles, we offer bank opportunities, annualised hours and overtime.
Our day shifts are 7.45am – 8.15pm, night shifts are 7.45pm – 8.15am.
To be the best midwife you can be, it’s important you have the most up-to-date knowledge. That’s why we continually invest in your training and development. You’ll have access to our diverse range of programmes, courses, and workshops for health professionals.
This includes professional and university-accredited training on a wide variety of specialist areas and working with Clinical Practice Educators to get valuable insights, mentorship, and support from experienced midwives. What’s more, every year we offer our wonderful nurses and midwives the opportunity to apply for a Florence Nightingale leadership scholarship – described as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop your career.
