The Portland Hospital

As one of the UK's largest private paediatric units, The Portland Hospital is committed to excellence in healthcare for children. Our specialist paediatric unit provides for babies and children up to 16 years of age who require treatment and support on an inpatient, outpatient or day care basis.

We have over 70 paediatric consultant specialists, which is the largest group in the UK. Many of the specialists also work in senior clinical and research posts at leading NHS trust hospitals, such as Great Ormond Street.

Our main specialities include acute neurological rehabilitation, allergies, dermatology, general surgery, orthopaedics and rheumatology, to name just a few.

The Children’s Unit within the Portland Hospital is open for both urgent and elective admissions. It includes 50 children’s beds, 7 paediatric intensive care unit beds and 3 neonatal intensive care unit cots.

All of our inpatient rooms are private and en-suite and they enable one parent or carer to stay overnight. We have a cheerful playroom where a play specialist helps to keep children’s spirits high.

At the Portland Hospital, we have a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit that provides level 3 care, which is the highest available. It can treat children who need support for multi-organ failure or respiratory support.

Our diagnostic and imaging department is a child-friendly department that offers examinations by radiographers, sonographers and consultant radiologists. The facilities include CT and MRI scans, X-rays, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and bone densitometry.

Our surgeons and paediatric intensive care specialists can provide comprehensive diagnostic care for cancer in babies and children. In our Paediatric Oncology Day Care Unit we give support and care to patients with cancer. We also give chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment to our patients.

It is made up of four rooms, two of which have negative pressure isolation if our patients are in a vulnerable phase. One of the rooms is especially for parents and siblings to offer support and privacy and the other is a treatment room.
