HCA has some of the most distinguished multi-disciplinary teams in Europe specialising in the liver, supported by the most up-to-date and comprehensive imaging and surgical facilities available anywhere in the UK. Our teams aim to provide the best treatment available for all conditions that affect the liver, pancreas and biliary tree.
Our HPB (hepato pancreato biliary) specialists, supported by dedicated nursing teams, treat patients suffering from acute alcohol-related liver disease, hepatitis, autoimmune conditions, gall stones, abcesses and cysts, HPB cancer and other, less common conditions of the liver. We also have surgeons who carry out liver transplants. Each HPB team has access to the very latest diagnostic and imaging technology.
Liver disease is the fifth largest cause of death in the UK, and diagnosing it usually involves a biopsy. However, we recently invested in state-of-the-art technology that allows for the non-invasive measurement of liver fibrosis without the need for a biopsy – a major medical breakthrough. This new technology is available at the London Bridge Hospital, where we have the dedicated London Liver Centre, led by some of the UK’s most experienced specialists in hepatology (the study of the liver), and The Liver Unit at The Wellington Hospital.
