Late effects of cancer treatment for children and young persons
Dr Assunta Albanese is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist specialising in the endocrine problems of children with cancer. She trained in Medicine at the University of Florence (Italy) and was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital (London) for three years. Her postgraduate thesis was based upon constitutional delay of growth and puberty. In 1999 Dr Albanese was appointed as Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology at St George's Hospital and at The Royal Marsden, where she runs the long-term endocrine service for oncological children. She is also a visiting consultant providing endocrine support for young haematology and oncology patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her clinical practice includes general endocrinology, with a particular interest in disorders of growth and puberty, diabetes insipidus and hyponatraemia, and the endocrine late effects of cancer and its treatment.
