Innovative technology

Our highly trained specialist teams diagnose and treat cancer using the most advanced technology platform in Europe.

HCA is proud to offer the most advanced radiotherapy techniques including stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery. Harley Street at UCH has recently installed TrueBeam and The Harley Street Clinic has upgraded its radiotherapy services with two new state-of-the art linear accelerators to allow image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), including respiratory gating, cone beam CT, and Kv Imaging. RapidArc is also now fully operational and treatment times can be reduced to a few minutes.

The London Gamma Knife Centre at Barts

The Centre, with the latest Gamma Knife Perfexion, is based at the heart of St Bartholomews Hospital. Transferred from Harley Street in 2009, the team had amassed 10 years experience using Gamma Knife technology to help and treat hundreds of patients with brain tumours.

The CyberKnife® Centre London

The CyberKnife is the world's first and only radiosurgery system that uses advanced robotics to treat tumours previously deemed inoperable and The CyberKnife Centre London at The Harley Street Clinic was the first in the UK to offer this treatment. This revolutionary, safe, non-surgical procedure delivers highly focused radiation therapy precisely to where it is needed, minimising significant dose to surrounding normal tissues that would be vulnerable to damage from high radiation doses. CyberKnife treatment requires no anaesthesia, there is no recovery time and patients can usually be treated and go home on the same day.

Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System

The da Vinci® Surgical System combines computer and robotic technologies to create a new category of surgical treatment, robotic-assisted laparoscopic, thoracoscopic or endoscopic surgery. By providing surgeons with enhanced capabilities, the da Vinci Surgical System makes it possible to treat a broader range of conditions using a minimally invasive approach. This means that with da Vinci, you can have major surgery with only a few tiny incisions. In addition, your surgeon can operate with better visualization, precision, dexterity and control than possible using traditional surgical approaches.

Intensive care

Our adult and paeditaric intensive care units provide expertise and technology of the highest standard. The service is provided by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of consultant intensivists, on-site doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals including dieticians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Imaging techniques - methods of producing pictures of the body - have become important in the early detection of many cancers, in determining how advanced a cancer is and the precise location of cancer in the body (staging), or to check if a cancer has returned. Our advanced technology platform includes

  • Computerised Tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Ultrasound (US)
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
  • Digital Mammography

Consultant radiologists, many of whom hold senior positions in renowned teaching hospitals, interpret and report scan results. We keep waiting times to a minimum and scans are available 24 hours a day in an emergency.
