HCA Healthcare UK appoints Chief Medical Officer

Dr Cliff Bucknall has been announced as Chief Medical Officer of HCA Healthcare UK, responsible for driving HCA UK’s commitment to providing patients with outstanding clinical care across the group.

HCA Healthcare UK is the largest provider of private healthcare in the UK. With six leading hospitals in London and one in Manchester specialising in acute complex care.

Dr Bucknall has worked with HCA UK for many years as a cardiac consultant at London Bridge Hospital and more recently, as the Cardiac Medical Director leading the development of cardiac care across HCA UK facilities.

Dr Bucknall has also been involved in research driving innovation and advances in cardiac care. Internationally, he has been at the forefront of laser lead extraction and biventricular pacemaker implantation, one of the most innovative treatments for heart failure. As such, he is a regular at conferences and courses around the world and has published in a wide range of academic papers.

Outside of HCA UK, his additional appointments have included: Royal College of Physicians Representative on BSI Standards Committee, Cardiology Advisor to Metropolitan Police and Specialist Advisor to NICE Interventional Procedures Programme.

In the past Dr Bucknall has worked within leading NHS institutions and teaching hospitals including Kings College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’.

Dr Bucknall succeeds Dr Chris Streather, who is now the Chief Executive of The Royal Free Hospital. He will take up his new post as Chief Medical Officer of HCA UK at the end of the end of July 2017.
