Chief Inspector of Hospitals publishes his findings on The Lister Hospital

England’s Chief Inspector of Hospitals has published his findings on the standards of treatment and care provided by The Lister Hospital, following a Care Quality Commission inspection in December.

The hospital was inspected under CQC’s new methodology which asks whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs, and well led.

Findings from the inspection have been published on the CQC website: http://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-126955884

John Reay, Chief Executive of The Lister Hospital, said:

“Last year, as the CQC extended its new inspection regime to the independent sector, we volunteered to be a pilot site and invited the CQC to inspect us. We are delighted with the CQC's report reiterating the great care that we provide and the opportunities to learn that the process has offered.

"The report recognises a number of areas of outstanding service and confirms that the highest standards of patient care are practiced at The Lister Hospital, underlining our commitment to investing in innovative treatments that maintain world class patient outcomes.

“We are proud that patients being treated at The Lister reported high levels of satisfaction with all aspects of our care. The CQC cited our innovative electronic systems to monitor patient progress, and our falls prevention programme to minimise harm to our patients, as of particular note.

“Moreover, our patient menu, which is planned with the input of a dietician and provides an extensive range of high quality meals to meet all patient needs, was also cited as a real benefit to patients’ stay at The Lister.

“Our internal processes, such as ensuring that identified leaders are visible and accessible to our staff, and both department and hospital managers supportive and approachable.

“Similarly, our high quality infection surveillance data base, linked to nursing electronic records and the microbiology/pathology laboratories to ensure oversight of infection prevention and control issues, was highlighted outstanding practice.

“Cumulatively, this is evidence that The Lister Hospital is a world class institution, with a focus on compassionate patient care and ensuring rigorous internal processes to maintain our renowned quality of patient treatment.

“In addition, we are confident that we are able to provide reassurance to the Chief Inspector in areas where he has identified the need for improvements – all of which are covered by processes and procedures currently in place to maintain our commitments to our patients.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, doctors and patients for being part of this very successful pilot”
