Dr. Christos Toumpanakis is a highly accomplished Consultant in Gastroenterology & Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET) at the Neuroendocrine Tumour Unit of Royal Free Hospital in London, UK, since 2007. He is also an Honorary Associate Professor at University College of London (UCL) and has been awarded 7 times as "Top-Teacher of the Year". Dr. Toumpanakis graduated from the Medical School-University of Athens, Greece in 1994, obtained his Specialty Title in Gastroenterology & Hepatology in 2004, and his PhD from the University of Athens in 2007.

He is recognized globally as a leading expert in NET and has been involved in the area of NET since 2000. Dr. Toumpanakis is a regular lecturer at several National & International Conferences and has published more than 100 original papers and reviews on the subject. He is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS), co-Chair of the Post-Graduate Course of ENETS annual Conference, co-Editor of ENETS CME program, co-Author of UK and Ireland NET Society & European NET Society Guidelines, associate Editor of "Journal of Neuroendocrinology", and a member of the Advisory Board of the "UK NET patients' foundation".

Dr. Toumpanakis leads a NET Clinical Research Group, involving Junior Doctors and UCL Medical Students in NET Clinical research projects. His main research interests include novel NET biomarkers, molecular imaging in NETs, and carcinoid heart disease. He organized the 1st International Conference for "Carcinoid Heart Disease" in London in 2014, which led to the development of an International Network of experts who published the first-ever International management guidelines for Carcinoid Heart Disease in March 2017.

Apart from NET, Dr. Toumpanakis sees patients with all general gastrointestinal conditions including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, celiac disease, chronic diarrhoea, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and gastrointestinal problems in patients with congenital immuno-deficiencies.
