Sally Tennant

Special Interests

Developmental dysplasia of the hip, clubfoot (including Ponsetti management), Neuromuscular disease, knee disorders in children and adolescents, antenatal counselling for congenital orthopaedic conditions, paediatric fractures.

Miss Sally Tennant attained most of her surgical training in London, completing her specialist training as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2004. After 18 months sub-specialising in paediatric orthopaedic surgery at the British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada (12 months) and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore (6 months), she was appointed Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, and at St Mary's Hospital, London in 2005.

While continuing to practice very broadly with an interest in most areas of paediatric orthopaedics, both trauma and elective, Miss Tennant has specific interests in the management of DDH (Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip), the management of clubfoot (including the use of the Ponseti technique) and other foot conditions, neuromuscular disorders and paediatric knee problems. She also works closely with the foetal medicine departments at St Mary's Hospital and Queen Charlotte's Hospital, undertaking ante-natal counselling of pregnant women following the ultrasound diagnosis of congenital orthopaedic deformities, frequently managing their orthopaedic care post-natally too. Links with the renowned Paediatric infectious diseases unit at St Mary's Hospital involve her in the regular management of bone and joint infection cases there.

Miss Tennant is a member of the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) and BSCOS (British Society of Children's Orthopaedic Surgery) and regularly attends Paediatric Orthopaedic conferences both in the UK and abroad, in addition to organising paediatric orthopaedic meetings and courses herself in the UK. In 2008 she visited Professor Ponseti and his team in Iowa, and in 2009 spent a week in Stockholm extending her experience of neuromuscular upper limb surgery at the Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital.
