In 2004 he was appointed as consultant cardiologist to the Royal Free Hospital & honorary senior lecturer at University College London. In 2008 he was elected to fellow of the Royal College of physicians. He is currently Head of department of cardiology, clinical director and has contributed significantly to service improvement. Dr Rakhit has a specialist interest in interventional cardiology including coronary angioplasty and stenting via the radial artery approach (wrist). This is a minimally invasive technique associated with fewer complications which hastens patient recovery. He is also skilled in permanent pacemaker implantation. He has a major interest in the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (heart attack) and was instrumental in setting up the Royal Free Heart Attack Centre which provides a 24/7 immediate angioplasty service for the treatment of acute heart attack. He is also interested in the relationship between heart disease and stroke.
