Biography: Ahmed graduated from medical school with an Honours degree and, in view of his distinction, he took up the role of a medical research student to which he was able to publish and present his results on both a local and international level. He started his career in surgery by successfully completing his basic surgical training at University College London. Ahmed was then granted a national training number for higher surgical training within the London Deanery. He had the opportunity to rotate through a number of prestigious institutions including Kings College University Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust. Within his final year of training, Ahmed undertook a laparoscopic fellowship at Kings College Hospital where he developed a subspecialty interest in laparoscopic upper urinary tract surgery. Upon successful completion of his training and obtaining his CCST, Ahmed obtained his FRCS(Urol) from the Royal College of Surgeons in addition to the European Board of Urology a year later.

Ahmed is a full time consultant at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. In addition to his laparoscopic work, he also manages all the complex urinary tract stone disease and is the sole surgeon performing PCNLs at his Trust. He also has a wide range of other interests, including the management of bladder outflow surgery caused by benign prostatic enlargement using both conventional and laser resection. He has previously demonstrated on the Greenlight Laser prostatectomy course held at Kings College Hospital.

Ahmed currently teaches on the biannual FRCS(Urol) revision course which takes place in Warrington. He has also participated as both a delegate and faculty member on the minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic course that is held in Aalborg, Denmark. Ahmed has also been an anatomy demonstrator at The University of London Medical School. He has also been involved in a number of clinical trials and is currently the chief investigator of a trial at his Trust.
