Mr Francis Lam is a Consultant Shoulder and upper limb surgeon based at The Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals. He specialises in the arthroscopic (keyhole) treatment of disorders of the shoulder and elbow. His clinical interests include shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tendinopathy, frozen shoulder, calcifying tendonitis, arthritis, painful stiff elbows and sports injuries of the upper limb. Mr Lam offers a One-Stop Shoulder Clinic whereby patients will receive a consultation, diagnostic ultrasound scan (carried out by him) and treatment all in one session. Where appropriate, he injects the shoulder under ultrasound guidance thus improving its accuracy and efficacy. Mr Lam graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals, University of London. His Specialist Registrar training was spent on the Kent, Surrey and Sussex rotation. He underwent further specialist fellowship training in shoulder surgery at the world renowned Cape Shoulder Institute in Cape Town, South Africa and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA. In addition to his surgical qualifications, Mr Lam has a Masters degree in Orthopaedic Engineering and his thesis was centred on the management of complex elbow fractures.
