Owase Jeelani, BMedSci, MBBS, MBA, MPhil (Medical Law), FRCS (NeuroSurg.), is a world-renowned paediatric neurosurgeon, inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He was ranked in Time Magazine’s top 100 surgeons in the UK in 2011 and top 100 paediatric specialists in the UK in 2012. His endeavours are designed around optimal prediction algorithms which increase efficiency, limit errors and improve outcomes.

He is currently Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), and he undertakes 200-300 paediatric neurosurgical and craniofacial procedures every year. His sub-speciality interests are Craniofacial Reconstructive Surgery, Craniopagus Separation Surgery, Surgery for Brain Tumours and Cerebrospinal Fluid and Intracranial Pressure Pathologies.

Mr Jeelani was Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at GOSH from 2012 – 2018. He turned it into a flagship service and one of the largest paediatric neurosurgery services in the world. The annual craniofacial paediatric caseload increased from 750 to over 1100 cases, 4 new consultant neurosurgeons were appointed, and operating revenues increased circa 14% year-on-year. His leadership and work have brought substantial recognition to GOSH and the NHS and he regularly receives outstanding reviews from colleagues, students and mentees.

Owase Jeelani is also the Founder of Gemini Untwined, a global charity dedicated to the treatment of craniopagus twins; and Honorary Associate Professor at the Institute of Child Health at University College London (UCL).

He has received international recognition and media attention for separating craniopagus twins, including Sudanese twins Rital and Ritag in 2011 and then, through Gemini Untwined, Pakistani twins Safa and Marwa in 2019 (the BBC article on Safa and Marwa ranked as the 6th most read news item worldwide in 2019), Turkish twins Yigit and Derman in 2020, and a set of Israeli twins in 2021.

A born innovator who consistently combines medical and business aptitude, Owase Jeelani, in his capacity as Honorary Associate Professor at UCL, is a Principal Investigator of FaceValue, a research team of doctors, scientists, and biomedical engineers that design surgical devices and machine-learning algorithms to predict and improve surgical outcomes; the inventor of CranioXpand, a cranial distractor system; and part of the team behind Klay BioTech.

An AI-driven, 3D VR platform, the Klay Platform uses proprietary hardware and software to plan, visualise, develop, and execute procedures. It offers an unprecedented level of predictability for craniofacial surgeries, patient control, and informed consent.

Having founded a medical consulting company, Interface Health Solutions in 2003, Owase also provides strategic counsel. IHS assisted in launching the Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in Dubai in 2007, appraised all national neurosurgical services for the government of Kuwait in 2010, and helped to establish the Neurosurgery and Craniofacial Service at Sidra Hospital in Qatar in 2018.

In 2013, Owase Jeelani further co-founded the London Craniofacial Unit to benefit patients with craniofacial and neurosurgical issues worldwide and replicate GOSH’s standard of care in the private sector.

Mr Jeelani holds an BMedSci from the University of Nottingham, an MPhil in Medical Law from the University of Glasgow, and an MBA from INSEAD. Majoring in Health Care Systems in the GCC countries, he studied in France, Singapore, and the Wharton Business School in Philadelphia.

An exceptional media and events speaker, Mr Jeelani’s unique global profile and experience in the operating room, boardroom, and research laboratory position him well to engage with national and international stakeholders and provide unique insights to develop national and international healthcare systems utilising tech platforms.
