Gastro-oesophageal reflux, dysphagia, non-cardiac chest pain, achalasia, constipation, rectal evacuatory disorders, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, nausea, bloating, Gastroparesis, GI Motility.
Dr Anthony Hobson trained as a GI Clinical Scientist at Hope Hospital in Salford under the tutelage of Mr John Bancewicz and Professor David Thompson. He completed training in a broad range of gastrointestinal physiological techniques which measured pharyngeal, oesophageal, gastric, small bowel and ano-rectal function. In 2003, he completed his PhD at Manchester and Aston University using advanced brain imaging techniques to map oesophageal pain regions and phenotyping patients with non-cardiac chest pain and non-erosive reflux disease into clinical sub-types using neurophysiological techniques. Dr Hobson has won several prestigious awards for his research including the inaugural Department of Health and Chief Scientific Officer's 'Young Healthcare Scientist' of the year award in 2005. In 2006, he joined the GI discovery medicine group at GlaxoSmithKline and spent 3-years working with some of the top Neurogastroenterologists around the world, designing and implementing clinical trials in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and using new neurogastroenterological techniques to measure drug effects. Dr Hobson currently manages the Neurogastroenterology Diagnostic Centre at Princess Grace Hospital and holds Honorary Contracts at Addenbrooke's Hospital and at the Wingate Institute for Neurogastroenterology.
