Mr David Goodier is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in the management of injury, ranging from treating high level athletes at their peak of fitness to the victims of accidents with complex fractures of the limbs. He has a particular expertise in correcting the complications of fractures such as non-union and mal-union, and has pioneered new techniques of post-deformity limb lengthening and deformity correction.

Mr Goodier started as a medical student at The London Hospital in 1985, qualifying in 1980. He was always struck by the orderliness of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the way it could transform lives by not only get people back to daily life and work, but also to sport. His training took him to diverse places including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, St Georges Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital, Colchester, Croydon, Newham and a three month stint at a trauma centre in Germany. He then moved back to The Royal London Hospital, which had the first medically staffed helicopter emergency service in the UK, and remains the busiest centre for Polytrauma in the UK. He became consultant there in 1996, and remained there until the end of 2011.

Having developed an expertise in what was at the time a highly unfashionable specialty, Mr Goodier found himself being referred cases that were too complex to be dealt with elsewhere, or had unfortunately gone wrong. He learned and helped develop techniques in limb salvage surgery, and twice travelled to the Ilizarov Institute in Siberia to review the techniques being used there.

As well as more complex traumas, Mr Goodier has an interest in sports-related trauma, notably soft tissue and ligament injuries of the knee and ankle.
