Professor Marc De Leval is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Harley Street Clinic and Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of London. He is also currently the Medical Director of International Congenital Cardiac Centre, HCA.After graduating from the University of Liege in Belgium in 1966, Professor De Leval underwent postgraduate training in cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford University (US), Great Ormond Street Hospital, and The Mayo Clinic (US). He was subequently responsible for the creation of the Heart and Heart-and-Lung transplantation programme for children at Great Ormond Street in 1988. He is a regular faculty member of postgraduate courses both in the UK and abroad, and a regular speaker and visiting professor. He has 0ver 300 publications and has written more than 70 book chapters, as well as co-authoring 'Surgery for Congenital Heart Defects'. Professor De Leval's current research interests include Computational fluid dynamics, study of repaired coarctation of the aorta, human factors and outcomes of cardiac surgery, and Biochemical and pharmalogical characterisation of vasoactive factors regulating the lynmphatic system.
