Mr Simon Atkinson was appointed to Guy's & St Thomas hospitals in 1999 and Kings College Hospital, the centre for pancreatic surgery in South East London and Kent in 2005. Mr Atkinson is a consultant surgeon specialising in gastrointestinal surgery particularly of the gallbladder and pancreas. He trained in gastrointestinal surgery at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital and was appointed as a consultant after further specialist pancreatic training in Australia. His practice also includes gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), gastric and duodenal ulcers, cancer, and pancreatitis. As part of general abdominal surgery, Mr Atkinson sees and treats patients with hernias (groin, umbilical, femoral and hiatus) and also haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas. He performs many operations using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery as well as endoscopic diagnostic procedures.
