Laparoscopic colorectal surgery; identifying biomarkers in colorectal cancer
Mr Anthony Antoniou is a Senior Clinical Lecturer/ Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon specialising in the treatment of patients with cancer of the colon and rectum.Mr Antoniou qualified from Cambridge University in 1992. He completed his general surgical training in London, and his specialist training at King's College Hospital and St Mary's Hospital. He has worked alongside leading experts in their fields and has been instrumental in developing colorectal surgery at The Royal Marsden. He has been instrumental in introducing minimally invasive / laparoscopic colorectal surgery to The Royal Marsden.He undertook laboratory research at the University of London from 2001 to 2003 and was awarded an MS. His current research interests include enhanced recovery for colorectal patients following surgery. In addition, he is collaborating with Imperial College in the field of metabonomics in the hope of identifying novel biomarkers in colorectal cancer, with the ultimate aim of developing targeted therapies to treat this disease.
