HCA Healthcare UK as a private healthcare provider is committed to safeguarding children and young people across the organisation. The welfare of children who come into our services, either directly or indirectly, is paramount and all staff have a responsibility to ensure that best practice is followed and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
HCA provides services in the London Boroughs of Camden, Havering, Kensington and Chelsea, Southwark, Westminster, and outside London in Manchester.
- HCA meets its statutory requirements in relation to Disclosure and Barring (DBS) checks and a process for pre-employment checks is managed through our Compliance Team;
- The Safeguarding Children and Young People’s policy is reviewed 3 yearly and in line with legislative changes and is widely available to all staff through HCA’s electronic policy library;
- HCA Healthcare UK has a dedicated Safeguarding Children Lead and a Named Doctor. They have a clear remit, including collaborative working with partner agencies. There are Executive Safeguarding Children’s Leads in all HCA Healthcare UK’s facilities;
- A quarterly Safeguarding Children’s Committee is held, which provides monitoring and assurance for the Quality and Safety Board with regards to safeguarding children activities in all HCA’s facilities;
- HCA has a system in place for alerting missed appointments and safeguarding concerns are raised and documented with the learning reporting system;
- Safeguarding supervision is offered in groups as well as during debriefing sessions as follow up on safeguarding children cases;
- There is a robust Safeguarding Children training programme from Levels 1-4 with clearly defined eligibility as laid down by the Intercollegiate Documents: Roles and Responsibilities for Healthcare Staff 2015;
- All staff attend Level 1 Safeguarding Children Training at Corporate Induction and for all other safeguarding children training from levels 2-4, staff are allocated according to agreed eligibility criteria.
